The remotest

I never thought I could say this, especially so soon, but I went to a place today that makes Superior look like New York City. I traveled to this gold mine, well an old gold mine, way up in the mountains on Cedar Creek road for a story. The road goes nearly into the Idaho border.

The car and I chugged slowly up the dirt path. I almost got seasick from all the pot holes. Going down was cool though because I put the car in neutral for almost the entire way. It was also beautiful. The creek somehow manages to look sea-green.

Also, I saw this moose. It was scary when he poked out, but he was definitely more scared of me.

That’s why he ran away so fast.

    Of course! But maybe the running car gave him other ideas.

    Maybe it was for the better. This was a whole different kind of car sick.I really felt like I was on a boat.

    Coasting over potholes!!! Near misses with Moose! I'm going to increase the insurance coverage on the car!

    Sounds exciting and fulfilling to see nature at that level. Your Mom and I discussed if either of us had ever seen a moose.. other than "Rocky and Bulwinkle"... Bronx Zoo is my only recollection. A cooworker recalled a moose (or multi moose- whatever the term is) blocked his driving for 20 minutes. They refused to budge across a road... I know I would not have gotten out of the car to help persuade. Howie 6/22

    Don't worry. The car needs to build character after you babyed it for so long.

    I was rafting for a story and the guide happened to be from Maine. He told me that he was surprised I hadn't seen any moose in the Adirondacks. I was surprised that he was surprised that it was my first moose. But now I have proof that people from the east don't see moose.
